Cambria College: Where Student Mental Health Comes First

Mental Health Support

At Cambria College, we are committed to creating an environment that prioritizes the mental health and well-being of all students. Whether you are an international student adjusting to life in Canada or a domestic student balancing career aspirations with work and family responsibilities, your well-being is our top priority. The Code of Conduct outlined below sets clear expectations for fostering a respectful, supportive, and inclusive community focused on mental wellness. We encourage both students and staff to embrace and uphold these eight tenets of well-being:

Respect for Self and Others

We promote a culture of kindness, empathy, and understanding. Students are expected to respect diverse perspectives and experiences while refraining from behaviors that may harm their own well-being or that of others, including bullying, harassment, and discrimination.

Seeking Support

Mental health is a priority. Students should seek assistance through counseling, peer support programs, or wellness workshops available at the college. If you notice a peer in distress, encourage them to access the appropriate resources.

Maintaining a Safe Learning Environment

Creating an inclusive and secure space is essential for learning and personal growth. Students should feel comfortable expressing themselves without fear of discrimination or harm. Disruptive behaviors, including harmful language or actions, are not tolerated.

Confidentiality and Privacy

Respecting the confidentiality of conversations, counseling sessions, and shared experiences is crucial. Spreading rumors or disclosing personal information without explicit consent is strictly discouraged.

Promoting Healthy Habits

Balancing academic responsibilities with self-care is essential for well-being. Cambria College encourages students to adopt healthy routines, including proper sleep, exercise, and nutrition, while also utilizing available time management and wellness resources.

Advocating for Wellness

Students are encouraged to participate in mental health awareness initiatives and provide constructive feedback to enhance the college’s mental health programs. Collective efforts help create a healthier campus environment.

Substance Use

All substance use should be in accordance with the college’s substance use policy. Students struggling with substance-related challenges are urged to seek support through college resources or external programs.

Accountability

Every student plays a role in promoting a mentally healthy campus. Holding oneself and peers accountable for upholding the Code of Conduct is vital. Any concerns should be reported to the appropriate campus authorities.

Insurance Requirements for International Students

At Cambria College, we want to ensure that all students are properly covered by medical insurance. International students studying in a program lasting 15 weeks or more must provide proof of sufficient healthcare coverage for their entire stay. You are free to select your own insurance provider or choose coverage through StudyInsured™.

Additionally, all students are required to register for British Columbia’s Medical Services Plan (MSP), which provides basic health coverage. We also recommend exploring additional insurance options to ensure comprehensive coverage while studying.

StudyInsured™: Extended Coverage for International Students

We are proud to partner with StudyInsured™, a trusted name in student travel insurance. StudyInsured™ offers flexible and customized insurance plans specifically designed for international students, ensuring your health is protected during your studies in Canada.
